World Literature: Russia
The purpose of this unit is to introduce you to some of the shorter masterpieces of nineteenth-century Russian literature. We will be reading short works by Gogol and Checkov. In addition we will be reading historical readings that relate to this period of nineteenth-century literature. We will be analyzing how complex characters advance the plot or develop the theme of the stories, structure of text, author's point of view and analysis of ideas or events including the order in which points are made.
Some of your readings will be listed here on-line and in print. It will be up to you to keep up with daily assignments, homework and readings.
Your first assignment will be to read the first 13 pages of The Nose. We have already read the first 3 pages and worked on this in class.
