We will be reading the novel Push by Sapphire for the next several weeks. This novel is somewhat controversial for its themes, content, and language. The novel has been widely discussed, critizized and made into an award winning movie. We will be reading the novel primarily for its use of language and not explicitely for its content.

The ideas behind the novel focus on a person's ability to 'push' through the had things. It focuses on a person't ability to be resilient and move forward in life.
When we have finished the novel, time will be reserved for watching the film Precious and making comparisions between the film and the book.
The two assignments for Push will be the Resiliency and the Achievement Gap documents. The PDF file on "writing on the wall" will help you answer the reflection on the achievement gap.
